“Experts on romance say for a happy marriage there has to be more than a passionate love. For a lasting union, they insist, there must be a genuine liking for each other. Which, in my book, is a good definition for friendship.”–Marilyn Monroe
This post comes a day late, but Peyton and I celebrated 6 months of marriage together yesterday! I cannot believe it has already been a half a year as husband and wife. Did anyone else feel like our wedding was just yesterday?! I love the quote above because it defines the foundation of our marriage. We started as great friends, grew into a dating relationship, and then solidified that relationship with our commitment of marriage. I truly believe the basis of a good relationship, in general, is two people who are best friends. If you are best friends first and foremost you will always trust the other person with your feelings/thoughts and you will genuinely enjoy their company. There is no one else in the world that I would rather spend time with than Peyton. He makes me laugh, knows my quirks, knows what stresses me out, makes me smile all the time, and knows when I just need a hug. Simply put, no one knows me or understands me more than he does.
Peyton and I currently work completely opposite work schedules of one another. The only times I see him during a normal day are when I say goodbye to him (when he’s asleep in the mornings) when I leave for work and when he wakes me up to say goodnight when he comes home from his job late at night. He works weekends, so on his off days during the week, I only get to see him for a few hours at night after I get off from work. It’s been hard for us because we love spending time together, but we just hope this time apart is not too long-lived. This challenge with our schedules has only made us cherish the moments we get with one another even more.
Recap of our 6 months of marriage so far:
- Disney Cruise to the Bahamas for our honeymoon
- Spent Christmas in Melbourne with the Casagrand side
- Trip to PA to celebrate the lives of my wonderful grandparents
- Trip to Jacksonville to see dad’s change-of-command ceremony
- Spear side visit + staycation at Universal Orlando
- Peyton landed a new job in the Disney company
- Signed the papers to build our first home (!)
The past 6 months have included a collection of both laughs and tears, but we know we can get through anything together because we work as a fabulous team. No matter what happens, I know anything is possible with Peyton by my side and he inspires me to follow my dreams and my heart every single day. Can’t wait to see how the rest of our first year rounds out!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout our first few months as a newly married couple–we love you all!
Until next time, keep on the sunny side.
